Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources, Inc. announces scholarships available for the Winter 2012 Riding Session

Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources, Inc., located on thirteen acres of land in Cicero, is a year- round riding facility for individuals of all ages with special needs. Agape is committed to providing a comprehensive, experiential equestrian program for those who have disabling conditions or are at risk. The program is designed to enhance the quality of the participants’ lives by addressing physical, psychological, academic, social and spiritual needs using the horse as a moving catalyst. The staff works in conjunction with physicians, therapists, teachers and parents to develop the most beneficial plan for each rider.

Through funding received from several grants the following scholarship opportunities are available for the Winter 2012 Riding Session (January 9 - March 30, 2012).

1. Scholarships for riders diagnosed with Down Syndrome, provided by a grant from the Seabury Foundation. This scholarship will cover half of the rider’s costs for the session. There are 6 scholarships available that will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

   Criteria:

   • Riders between ages of 7 and 10
   • Physician’s written diagnosis of Down Syndrome
   • First time participant in Agape’s therapeutic riding program
   • Meet weight limit requirements (up to 170 pounds)

2. Scholarships for riders diagnosed with autism, provided by a grant from the Junior League Trust Fund. This scholarship will cover half of the rider’s costs for the session. There are 6 scholarships available that will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

   Criteria:

   • Riders between ages of 7 and 10
   • Physician’s written diagnosis of autism
   • First time participant in Agape’s therapeutic riding program
   • Meet weight limit requirements (up to 170 pounds)

3. Scholarships for riders with demonstrated financial need, provided by a grant from the Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation. The amount awarded by this scholarship will be determined based upon demonstrated financial need.

   Criteria:

   • Meet weight limit requirements (up to 170 pounds)
   • Submit completed scholarship form demonstrating financial need
