Volunteer of the Year

This prestigious award is given on behalf of our students, their parents, teachers, caregivers, the Agapé staff and our horses to a deserving volunteer each year.

The Volunteer of the Year for 2010 is Priscilla Slendak

When the discussion came up last November about choosing the Volunteer of the Year for 2010, I shuttered, as I normally do, at the prospect of choosing one volunteer over the other. If I had my way, I would choose each and every one of our volunteers. Not only are they all very special, they also bring unique gifts and talents to Agapé. This year, we decided that we would ask our volunteers to choose the one volunteer that stands out among them, has offered their time and talents in an outstanding way and who they would like to represent Agapé as their choice for the Volunteer of the Year in 2011. Priscilla Slendak was nominated time after time. Priscilla undoubtedly, meets the criteria that we are looking for in our Volunteer of the Year.

Priscilla Slendak started her volunteer experience with us in 1998 as a sidewalker to many of our students. As the years went by she came to the forefront, not only as a volunteer, but as a donor of anything and everything that Agapé needed. When Agapé needed a Bob Cat to clear an area for our miniature horses, she contacted her former employer, Delullo & Sons and they donated one for us to use. Two years ago, when Agapé created a marketing team of volunteers, called The Agapé Helping Hands, Priscilla accepted the role of President. Her organizational and motivational skills have helped her to lead a committed group of volunteers who promote Agapé to the community. She has single handedly contacted numerous businesses who have partnered with Agapé for marketing and public relations events. Just a few of these businesses include Borders Book Store, Chick-Fil-A, Westfield Fire Department and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Carmel.

Not only has Priscilla been instrumental in promoting the Agapé name and our programs, but her hard work and long hours have brought hundreds of dollars to Agapé to use for our Rider Scholarship Fund. Priscilla plays a major role each year in organizing and helping out with the “Par for the Horse” Golf Tournament and “Agapé’s Breakfast for the Barn”.

Priscilla Slendak’s faith and strong belief in what God can do working through us never wavers.
