Agapé Therapeutic Riding Center

A unique Volunteer Opportunity in Hamilton County

Whatever your talent, skill or time availability, Agapé would love to have your help! Just an hour or two of your time each week can make a difference in a person's life. (Your life too!) Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Great volunteer opportunities are available, both during the therapeutic riding sessions as well as helping with office duties and fundraisers. Those helping in riding lessons must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Must be 16 years of age or older (or 14 or older if teamed with a parent or guardian. See below for more information.)
  • Able to support rider's weight, on the horse, at volunteer's shoulder height or above
  • Able to walk for an hour, with occasional jogging
  • Able to follow instructions and understand safety cause and effect
  • Must wear closed toe and heel shoes, long pants and sleeved shirts recommended
  • Able to reliably commit to a scheduled weekly day and time
  • An image depicting that we love our volunteers
Our volunteers are a vital part of our student's experience here at Agapé. Volunteers are asked to attend a 3 hour introductory training session. Additional training is offered through Continuing Education Sessions throughout the year. All volunteers are encouraged to attend these training sessions. Please call the Agape office at 317-773-7433 for the date of our next volunteer training.

Agapé has instituted a new program that is designed especially for 14 and 15 year olds to partner with a parent or guardian to team volunteer at Agapé. Our "Team Volunteers" are required to attend the 3 hour training session and are encouraged to participate in our monthly continuing education classes. We feel that this is a great way to involve 14 and 15 year olds with a parent or guardian at Agapé and at the same time help them discover that volunteering is fun and rewarding!

In addition to working with our students in their classes, many other volunteer opportunities exist. There is always additional work to be done around the grounds like general repair or gardening. The instructors need assistance doing crafts with the students in the classroom. You can spend time giving individual attention to one of the horses or one of our other animals as a Four Legged Friend. Volunteers can also go offsite to help in our Mini Visitation Program.
